This year Genzyme’s Geel facility was listed among the top 10 “Best Places to Work” in Belgium, ranking eight among companies with less than 500 employees. The Great Place to Work Survey captures the appreciation of the employees for their company. This is the site's fourth consecutive top-10 selection (after 2004, 2006, 2008). Genzyme Further Expands Biomanufacturing Plant in Belgium
Genzyme announced today it will further expand its high-tech cell culture production facility in Geel, Belgium, with an additional bioreactor of 4000 liter. The investment for this amounts to €46 million euro, and eighty extra jobs will be created at the Geel site. This announcement was made at the Geel site in the presence of the Flemish Minister-President Kris Peeters. More>

Approval of Genzyme’s Geel Manufacturing Plant for the Production of Myozyme®
Genzyme announced today that following the approval by the European Commission on February 25th of the production of Myozyme (alglucosidase alfa) at the 4000 liter (l) bioreactor scale at its biomanufacturing site in Geel, Belgium, the first commercial batch of the treatment has been shipped.
